The Alternative Daily defines it as a chemical salt. Generally, people in chemistry profession call it sodium bicarbonate. It has the ability to react with both acids and bases. However, when water is added to it, you will get a slightly alkaline solution.

Aside from being a staple in baking, this white powder is useful in many ways. For example, you can use it in polishing your silver jewelry. Besides, it is also a major component in making toothpaste and deodorants. To some extent, it is also an effective way to put off a grease fire and clean clogged sinks.

Baking Soda and Weight Loss

For several years, there have been studies linking the effects of baking soda to weight loss. However, there is no direct relationship between drinking sodium bicarbonate and losing weight. But, it can indirectly affect your body and performance that will lead to burning excess calories. Here are some of these benefits:

Apparently, energy drinks function to replenish lost electrolytes while you sweat. They are essential for your body to perform basic functions. For example, your heart, nerves, and muscles work because of electrolytes.

Dissolving a certain amount of baking soda in water can be a potent source of essential electrolytes. Also, you can add it to your smoothies for better taste.​

To avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, a solution of baking soda and coconut water can be your saving grace.

This recipe replenishes lost electrolytes during exercises. In addition, it helps lower your lactic acid that causes muscle pain and fatigue. As a result, you can do more reps and burn fat.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon unprocessed sea salt
  • 7 cups coconut water
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

Process:

  • 1.First, heat the coconut water over a low flame
  • 2.Second, add the soda. Stir the mixture until the powder is completely dissolved
  • 3.Next, add the rest of the ingredients
  • 4.Then, stir thoroughly until the solution becomes homogenous
  • 5.Finally, pour the resulting solution into a glass jar and store. If you keep this drink in the fridge, it can last up to a week

Benefits:

Although coconut water has a light consistency, it is a very potent source of minerals. For example, it is a rich source of iron, magnesium, calcium, and zinc. Furthermore, it has high levels of potassium that replenishes whatever is lost when you sweat. On the other hand, the addition of raw honey and lemon piles up the health benefits of this drink.

Dose:

Drink 1-2 glasses of this mixture right after a workout. Although it helps you maintain your electrolyte level, you should still take sufficient water as recommended.

Although genetics is the primary determinant of your metabolic rate, there are ways of enhancing it. For example, you can try this green tea and baking soda mixture. Apparently, various studies prove that green tea can boost the effects of exercise and expedite weight loss.

It contains compounds such as catechins, theanine, and caffeine. These substances work together to block enzymes that enable fat storage. As a result, you can easily burn fat and prevent its accumulation.

Ingredients:

  • Green tea preferably organic
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Process:

  • 1.First, prepare your green tea as directed
  • 2.Next, add in a quarter of a teaspoon of baking soda for every 8 ounces of tea
  • 3.Then, stir well until the powder is completely dissolved
  • 4.Finally, serve hot. Commonly, you may consume this before a meal for best results

Dose:

Drink a glass of your freshly prepared mixture on an empty stomach or before a meal. The enzymes in the green tea may not perform its job if it reacts to whatever you have taken.

  • 1 glass of water
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 lemon fruit

Process:

  • 1.First, prepare a glass of lukewarm water
  • 2.Next, add in the baking soda. Stir well to dissolve the powder thoroughly
  • 3.Then, juice in half a lemon and mix well

Dose:

Consume this drink daily in the morning on an empty stomach. Take this every day for two weeks and skip the next two. It’s to prevent a condition called alkalosis. Actually, this condition results from excessive consumption of basic substances like baking soda.

Extreme Caution

Although baking soda has a plethora of benefits that will aid weight loss, you still need to exercise. Generally, too much of it in the system is not good for people suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Apparently, it increases the sodium level in your blood. As a result, you are more prone to high blood pressure and other heart problems. It is also best to get the opinion of professionals. In other words, it is always a good choice to talk to your physician before undertaking a special regimen.

Again I say that there’s nothing wrong in aiming for a thinner physique. However, your health and safety must always be your top priority. What you do to your body will always have its consequences. The last thing you want is for your health regimen to be counter productive. Worse, it could start the deterioration of your health. Drinking substances like baking soda to lose weight is no exception, although exercise caution.
